“FOOD Quality in Digital Age” at the Research Centre for Fisheries and Aquaculture in Szarvas, Hungary
On Friday, 6 September, Dr. Zoltan Kovacs, Head of Research Strategy, International Affairs Advisor of the Institute, full professor at the Department of Food Measurements and Process Control in the Institute of Food Science and Technology at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) presented the aims and the outcomes of the project “FOOD Quality in Digital Age” to the researchers of MATE Research Excellence Programme, Flagship Research Groups Programme and experts of the Research Centre for Fisheries and Aquaculture (formerly NAIK-HAKI) in Szarvas, Hungary. During the project presentation, professor Kovacs presented his team’s involvement in the project and highlighted the benefits of international cooperation and mutual exchange of experience.
During a visit to the experimental earthen ponds and irrigation experiment under the auspices of the Research Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture (HAKI) in Annaliget, Szarvas participants learned about how the centre implements R&D&I programmes with the aim of providing a scientific background for sustainable fish production and the development of sustainable fish management practices in natural waters. They also heard about the fish gene bank of MATE HAKI, which forms the basis of the Institute’s international aquaculture development activities and carp breeding programmes. The host and the participants of the visit had a great opportunity to discuss recent trends of digitalization in the food industry and the wider area of agriculture.
