The Institute of Food Science and Technology of MATE was established in Feb.2021. It employs over 130 researchers and educates over 100 PhD students – experts in food and nutrition sectors. The Institute focuses on the quality control of raw materials and foods, post-harvest technology, food technologies as well as special nutrition programmes. The knowledge transfer to adapt best practices of the above-mentioned fields for the improvement of food production, nutrition and reduction of food waste with the application of the modern post-harvest technologies and food processing technologies a potential strategical point of common interest. The Institute has successfully carried out many local, national and international projects in these fields, as well as has cooperation network with more than 500 enterprises in agriculture, food and nutrition sectors in Hungary.

The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
